Welcome to the Jim Acosta Morning Memo on a Wednesday morning after Trump spent his day being confronted over his rant fantasizing about nuking millions of Americans — and choosing to let those words hang in the air like a toxic cloud.
Rant Control: Leading off, Tuesday’s news was dominated by this rant from a rally the night before, in case you missed it.
And again, remember with the war, it’s just artificial. It’s a little bit high. It’s a small price to pay for keeping the world safe, keeping our country safe.
If they could take out a city, let them take— Let it Let ‘em take out Los Angeles. Let ‘em take out San Diego. That’s— This is a very small price to pay and it’s going to be over with very soon.
Trump Speaks Volumes: While his allies and aides tried desperately to defend the remarks, it was Trump whose actions spoke the loudest. On his way out of town for a speech in Maryland, reporters confronted Trump, asking him to explain what he meant.
That thumbs-up was to another reporter’s inaudible question, but it may as well have been for his despicable rant, which he conspicuously declined to address.
Hours later, he was asked about it again as he returned to the White House. Check that out.
He literally waved it off. He knows what he said.
