The American people understand that congressional democrats have been given a mandate to seek justice and accountability and provide relief from economic stress. Working across the aisle and “moving on” is not a part of that mandate. They had better understand that. One thing I hope we all have learned is not to be a captured electorate. Now more than ever we need to apply continuous pressure.
Schumer is no longer the person for the job. We need a tough, progressive. Someone who can stand up to both parties, makes sure that everyone connected with corruption on both sides is investigated, made accountable, convicted and sent to jail. And let's pass some teeth into legislation around executive pardons. There's got to be a way we can stop these criminals from walking off free. Maybe blacklist them from every government position and/or contract in the future. Something to stop them from taking the pardon.
I agree with Ida 100% Schumer needs to step down we need some tough new blood someone that is very progressive, to shake things up and go after every single last corrupt politician! The most of the people of this country are sick of all the corruption!
Agree on doing all that. If D’s win a majority in both chambers they can block trump nominees (but R’s try to rush nominees now) and put some serious blocks to debt ceiling and budget negotiations. As well as investigate and hold public hearings to shine light on the depth and reach of corruption of this administration - even with trump pardons. But passing major legislation with trump veto power (and corrupt SCOTUS)? I don’t think so - but I agree we need D’s who will aggressively try! The hardest thing will be for voters who generate the Blue Wave to stay the course, not lose fight and focus when trump’s ( or Vance’s) continuing presidency thwarts D’s attempts to undo the terrible things trump’s administration has done.We must hold firm through 2028 and get these corrupt deplorables out of the legislative and executive branches and then reform the judicial! No matter how long it takes!
Totally agree. But also not having the requisite numbers has never stopped repugs. I am not suggesting lowering standards but at least fight. Fight or get voted out.
Artist@Painter, you are correct and I think someone like Abdul that isn’t in bed with all these old school crotchety asses is exactly what we need. Someone with some real ethics, and balls!
Schumer also didn’t endorse Zohran Mamdani along with House minority leader Hakeem Jeffries. What’s up with that shit? We need leaders that will go for the jugular which they are definitely not up to the task. They both take AIPAC money which is a huge conflict of interests.
I forgot to add Jeffries meeting secretly with Jared Kushner and not letting it be known what it was all about. I don’t trust him as far as I could throw him.
I think if Senator Schumer calls, a journalist should answer. Hear what he has to say.
He’s currently Senate Minority Leader.
But if we Democrats should take the Senate, I believe he should step aside. AIPAC is so tainted by Netanyahu’s government. Netanyahu actions in Gaza have been so egregious there’s no coming back.
I hope we avoid creeping into antisemitism, anymore than we should be Islamophobic. Or anti black.
But it’s time for Schumer to graciously step aside.
Interesting to note how far and how important independent journalism is now, that the possible Speaker of the House would be making midnight phone calls. Not a Schumer fan, but I see this as a good thing.....
Democrats can’t do the same old, same old when we win back the Congress. Fresh leadership is required in both the Senate and House to gain voters’ confidence that a new more progressive action path is charted.
I am no fan of Schumer but you can blame what is happening in Gaza now on Netanyahu, Trump, Rashida Tlaib and those who did not vote for Kamala. I want to win the House and Senate first and then take a night or two of relief and joy.
Coffee is life, I am right there with you, I don’t understand how these politicians can sleep at night knowing there is genocide going on in Gaza, the West Bank and other parts of the world. While I hey all just twiddle their thumbs. Our government isn’t worth shit. We need some serious change NOW!
Sadly, I really don't care what Schumer thinks or has to say. I'm much more interested in what folks who voted for trump in the past are saying. And Independents, and people that didn't vote at all.
Schumer and Jeffries are a major part of the reason for the ineffectiveness of the Dems against an organized GOP. Dysfunctional leadership. Distracted messaging. Focus on pointless identity politics. Democrats have lost their historical identification with working people. They are overly cautious about offending particular constituencies--particularly Israel. They are fractured and fragmented and fight among themselves:
- Israel and Gaza.
- Immigration.
- Economic policy.
- Police and criminal justice.
- Energy and climate policy.
- Corporate influence.
- The role of progressive versus moderate candidates.
Beyond this, both parties are responsive to the policy preferences of their national donor base. The interests of wealthy donors are not necessarily the same as the interests of wealthy Americans generally, much less the interests of ordinary voters. We don't have a Republican vs Democrat or Right vs Left problem. The US has a Wealthy vs The Working Stiff problem.
Even my congressman, Donald Norcross. When he votes with 32 other Dems who vote with Republicans to withhold funding from colleges and universities who exercise their 1st amendment right to protest, he's enabling a fascist agenda.
Wow! The rancor in these comments is notable. I’m a bit surprised. Like CQ, I want to relish next week in the victories, not trash Schumer. I, too, would like to see a new leader, though. Can any of you who want to rid the Senate majority leader seat of Schumer have ideas for a replacement? If you’re going to dis on Schumer, who would you recommend as Senate leader? That would be a much more interesting conversation and could lead us forward. I sure miss Kamala in the Senate. She used to really hold Republican feet to the fire. Love to all, Susan
A new senate leader needs to be moderate, maybe a little younger and one that has a really really good staff. That is a demanding job.
Think the selection would take some vetting. The leader needs to be: America voters first and re-establish democracy and quickly rebuild the social safety net. Do not select a leader that has more obligation to a religion than they do to overall people of U S. Wish I knew them all well enough to not only know what issues they stand out on like Warren, Burnie and others, but how they view the current legislative needs of the U S. If I had the responsibility and had to pick today with the very limited knowledge I have, think I would go with Senator Whitehouse.
It’s hard for me to trust a man that takes money in return for a vote.
Ilive in nyc and
schumer seems to be intent on first representing a foreign country, Israel, and a long way after that we the peope of NY state
Yes, and many more

Schumer needs to go as Majority Leader. He has held the party back.

AGREE! The Dems have to keep trying and pushing everything to limit of the law.
Why did he not publicly endorse Abdul???!!! We will need a different leader in the Senate!
Artist@Painter, you are correct and I think someone like Abdul that isn’t in bed with all these old school crotchety asses is exactly what we need. Someone with some real ethics, and balls!
YES! AGREED!

I’m 75 to start.

I agree but disagree on the "graciously step aside". Kick him out!
I hope Schumer will graciously step aside for the next leader, if he does not: boot him

Shouldda let it go to voicemail.
LOL 😹

I will never trust a man who's sole purpose in life is to ensure US Taxpayer dollars fund a GENOCIDE.

Chuck Schumer is nauseating.

Booker too.

Sorry Jim, but I wouldn't have listened to two words from that pathetic fool. The thought of him as majority leader makes me "nauseous. "

Schumer is a drag on democrats he only works for Israel and the corporations.
