Welcome to the Jim Acosta Morning Memo on another TACO Tuesday morning that sees Trump chickening out on staying awake, keeping his shit together when a woman asks him a question, and retaining a functioning military leadership. Let’s JAMM!
Punking Pete: Last night, the stunning resignation of Army Secretary Dan Driscoll rocked the Trump administration. The Wall Street Journal broke the story, but The Atlantic filled in some important context.
The resignation reportedly came days after a White House meeting at which Driscoll directly told Trump what he thought of Hegseth’s gutting of military leadership:
Trump was surprised when Driscoll told him how many generals and other top officers had been fired, pushed out, or passed over for promotion under Hegseth, one of the people said. Driscoll argued that the Army could not transform itself the way it needs to, because of the departure of so many leaders, this person said, adding that Trump expressed concern about the deep cuts to the Army’s senior leadership.
I guess the Human Printer left those pages out of his daily Happy Time briefing.
Dozin’ Donald: Trump dozed off yesterday during an Oval Office event in full view of the press, television cameras, and the entire nation.
We’re still waiting for the wall-to-wall hounding from the media that caught fire every time Joe Biden had a long blink.
Money Machine: But Trump did eventually wake up long enough to drop doozies like this sad update on the “Underpants” meme.
We don't need their product. So if we cut off trade with that country, we just made $40 billion. You do a few countries like that, and we become a big money machine.
You expect this from the jerk at the end of the bar. And you don’t put that guy in charge of anything.
Nasty Woman: At the same event, NewsNation correspondent Libbey Dean became the latest woman to be attacked by Trump for asking a question. In other words, doing her job.
LIBBEY DEAN: Have you ruled out using a nuclear weapon against Iran?
DONALD TRUMP: Well, I would never say that, but the answer is yes. I rule that — no, use — there’s no reason for it.
DEAN: And has that been —
TRUMP: What a stupid question that is, actually. Well, uh-oh. Here they are. They’re totally defeated militarily. So now I defeat them, and now I should use a nuclear weapon on top of them?
What a stupid question.
Yes, why would anyone ask the guy who constantly posts apocalyptic AI slop — and reportedly once asked “If we had them, why can’t we use them?” — a “stupid” question like that?
