Welcome to the Jim Acosta Morning Memo on a Wednesday morning after Trump made it crystal clear he has no intention of accepting the election results, went crazier than usual at his rallies, and took brutal losses in court.
Grab some coffee, tea, or matcha and let’s freaking go!
Coup-Coup: As if there was any doubt to begin with, Trump was asked at a gaggle with reporters if he will quote “respect” the election results if Republicans lose. The response was bone-chilling.
REPORTER: Mr. President, if you do not prevail in this election, despite having worked as hard as you have, how do you intend to work with Democrats if they have control of the House or the Senate?
PRESIDENT TRUMP: We’ll figure a way. Look, I have strong veto. I hope that that won’t be the case, but if it is, that’s happened before with many presidents. And you have strong veto, and you end up working out deals.
REPORTER: And you’ll respect the results, whatever happens?
PRESIDENT TRUMP: I will, if they’re honest elections.
That’s not a coded “no,” it’s a screaming, flashing red one. This is a man who doesn’t even accept the results of elections he WON, let alone losing results.
‘Monster’ Mash: And that comment comes days after he made this not-so-cryptic reference to his quote “two big monsters” during his Georgia rally.
I’d like a little advice from my two people, my two big monsters that are going to do so well. They’re going to be the biggest stars in the country in a week.
It doesn’t take a stable giraffe-identifying genius to know what kind of chaos he’s talking about — we’ve seen this movie before.
Rally Crap: Meanwhile, Trump held not one, but two rallies in Texas yesterday, both of which featured every bit of the craziness we’ve been seeing lately, and then some. But first…
MAAP Check: Trump is headed to Ohio today, where he’ll again be face-to-ass with that pile of muscle for another rally.
Sherrod Brown holds a 3.6-point lead over Jon Husted in the Acosta Average, including a 3-point advantage in the most recent poll.
And in South Carolina, a brand-new poll has Annie Andrews effectively tied with Darline Graham, with less than a point separating them. The Acosta average shows a 1.1 point Graham lead, well within the MOE.
