Welcome to the Jim Acosta Morning Memo on a Friday morning after Trump’s administration escalated their conquest of cinematic villain territory with public executions and a literal heat ray!

Acosta Exclusive: Trump’s deportation forces have been cleared to use a weapon called an “Active Denial System” on civilians.
According to a memo we’ve obtained, Customs and Border Protection petitioned the Defense Department in July for the use of the system, also described as a “Heat Ray,” and DOD approved the weapon in late September.
ICE Cold: In related news, ICE agents in New York shot a 28-year-old man named Oscar Belgal, firing into his car while his 5-year-old son was in the back seat.
At a press conference, Mayor Mamdani described the disturbing scene.
ICE agents surrounded the man’s vehicle before opening fire. They wore construction vests and masks that concealed their faces. There was no reasonable way to identify them as ICE agents. School had just gotten out. The street was crowded with families and children. When ICE agents opened fire, a 5-year-old child, a 5-year-old child, was in the backseat of the car. Thank God that child is physically unharmed.
The Mayor went on to reveal his conversations with Trump and his DHS chief, and expressed outrage at the shooting.
What happened today was an outrage. Tonight, a 5-year-old child sits traumatized and terrified. Tonight, millions of our neighbors are wondering whether they will be safe on our streets, in our schools, at their work sites.
And on Thursday night, Mamdani wrote that when he speaks to Trump again, “I will demand that he ends all ICE enforcement actions in our city.”
Unrest Over Shooting: Anger over the shooting erupted into protests in the city last night.
But there were no injuries reported, and four people were arrested and given civil summonses.
Death Squad Live: In other news, Pete Hegseth made news yesterday when he announced the first live-streamed public execution in US history, which will be the firing-squad execution of Fort Hood shooter Nidal Hasan.
That’s a lie, by the way. President Obama never referred to the Fort Hood shooting as “workplace violence.”
Not The Greatest Show: On Fox News, of all places, the daughter of Michael Cahill, one of Hasan’s victims, called the execution scheme a “circus.”
The firing squad is a little weird to me. I don’t quite understand that. I think it makes a circus and brings attention to him that’s not needed.
Another Worst First: The spectacle will be the first public execution in the US since 1936. Don’t be surprised, and I truly wish I was joking, if Donald Trump shows up on the broadcast to deliver his cheesy “You’re fired!” reality show line.
