Welcome to the Jim Acosta Morning Memo on a Wednesday morning after a day that was split between a Crapshow hearing on Trump’s crimes and a rolling demonstration of real-time Trump dumbassery. Let’s go to work!
Hearing Problems: Trump’s crimes were dragged back into the spotlight by a Republican-led Senate committee that tried to put Jack Smith on the hot seat but ended up engineering the most spectacular faceplant in the history of Congress.
Schitt Show: In a moment that everyone’s talking about, Sen. Eric Schmitt began a bizarre interrogation of Smith over his attendance at a basketball game, complete with an elaborate visual aid.
A truly perplexed Smith was like “I don’t know what the hell you’re talking about,” as a smug Schmitt came right out and accused Smith of PERJURY!
But Sen. Amy Klobuchar settled the mystery moments later as a sputtering Schmitt tried to save face.
