Welcome to the Jim Acosta Morning Memo on a TACO Tuesday in America, as Trump’s trade war with Canada roils, the outrage over the Jeffries-Kushner meeting boils, and Economic D-Day underwhelms. Grab some napkins and let’s chow down!
Trump Lashes Out As America Hates Him (Almost) Everywhere: Trump’s rolling Truth Social meltdown included a rant about “Fake Polls” that came hot on the heels of an Economist/YouGov poll that shows Trump underwater in 47 states and the District of Columbia. That’s kind of a lot, isn’t it?
Canadian Bakin’: Ontario Premier Doug Ford has been steady cooking Donald Trump, hitting him everywhere it hurts by telling him he’s a loser and nobody likes him, calling out red states, and telling him to kiss his poutine. CBC put together a supercut.
Carney Goes There: Canadian PM Mark Carney was more restrained but no less deadly when he shouted out midterm swing states in another clap-back to Trump.
What message does that send to the workers in Michigan and Ohio and Kentucky and Alabama who rely on Canadian demand?

Flailing Back: Trump responded with his usual subliterate social media posts, including this goofy shit.
The United States is giving serious consideration to changing the name of Lake Ontario to Lake America in that we don’t expect to doing much business with Ontario any longer. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DONALD J. TRUMP
‘Economic D-Day’ Meets The Press: Scott Bessent took a pounding at his press conference from reporters who called out the weaknesses of the latest Iran strategy.
Most telling was the stunning admission Bessent made when challenged about not imposing sanctions immediately.
Reporter: You described this as an economic D-Day, but D-Day wasn't a threat of an invasion and the US didn't give a timeline to Germany. So why not impose the sanctions today?
Bessent: Why would I want to blow up the global financial system?
Chaser: Fox News correspondent Lucas Tomlinson pointed out that the “Economic D-Day” threat has sparked this reaction.

Kushner Kontroversy: Leader Hakeem Jeffries pissed a lot of people off by meeting in secret with Secretary of Nepo Jared Kushner, so he put out a helpful video to try and calm things down. Three minutes is a long time.
No one is going to get a pass. We’re gonna hold every single member of the Trump cartel accountable beginning on day one.
Maggie Haberman and Annie Karni have the inside scoop and analysis on the damage control.
