Let me explain: Qualities I think USA could use in a leader: 1. Heroic; 2. Brave 3. Compassionate. 4. Intelligent 5.Humble. Resolute.
Isn’t it time to have a heroic person who knows the difference between right and wrong; honesty and dishonesty; and would protect our precious liberties? Don’t misunderstand me. I wouldn’t wish the job on this fine man. However, it gives me a moment of solace to know that Mr. Fanone is out there as one fine American citizen who defended our Capitol on January 6, 2021.
As soon as Michael Fanone said that he knew where they could put the plaque, we all knew what was coming! I know that it is a serious topic, and I know that Michael Fanone went to the gates of hell that day, and is still coming back. But Michael never ceases to inject his humor to cope with this repulsive tragedy (laugh or we cry). I would have lauded that move to have a plaque (and so much more!) attached to the foundational cornerstone of the Capitol, because those brave officers ARE the foundation of this country! Those who put their lives on the line for this democracy ARE our foundation. But this glib effort is now meaningless, dare I say insulting, for a gesture that mocks their pardoning the J6ers and ignoring the damage to our democracy and those who fought for it that day as well as the deaths that occurred because of it. How can you respect an Administration who let did not speak up against what was said about the V.P. nor the attempted citizen coup that day? How can we respect that these participants were INVITED to a party, a celebration, and God knows what else? The "measure of man" of our heroes that day parallels the size of the universe, while the same measure applied to those who sent the mob, supported the mob or were the mob can only be seen in subatomic particles (and even THOSE are too big!).
Hard to believe our present House & Senate are "equal branches of Government to the Executive and SC, give the supine positions in face of raw, thug-like MAGA intimidation. Thank God for Senators like my own Jack Reed of R.I and a couple of GOP-ers.
